I would be grateful if you shared this post ❤

Ava’s two, can you believe it?

WARNING: bragging ahead!

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a bragger. If anything, I downplay things in consideration of other people. It was so when my daughter memorized and recited nursery rhymes at 18 months old, learned the alphabet at age two, was effortlessly reading before she turned five, and when she won the Little Miss pageant at five, etc…etc…you get the picture.

You know, when your friend is currently without a job, you are not going to tell her you just got a promotion.  You downplay it by telling her how much you hate your job. Also, I would never ask you this question: “isn’t my daughter the most beautiful little girl you’ve ever seen?” while you’re holding your most beautiful little girl! I’ve been asked that question. Trust me, it happened. How do you answer it? You can’t.

Ava’s Two! ♥

So let’s all be considerate of each other. Let’s be real. You will hear me complain when my kid goofs up. You won’t see me pretend she’s the perfect human being and our family never faces any problems, because that would be a lie. I know people that do that all the time. Everything is a fairy-tale, puppies, butterflies, and unconditional love. Yeah right.

So, en masse, I am going to brag today. I will brag about my granddaughter although the bragging rights are actually reserved for her parents, Andrea and Aaron. They get all the credit for raising such a special little person.

Avelyn (Ava) just turned two. In these two years, she managed to load my heart with feelings I never knew existed.  If you have grandchildren, you’ll know what I mean. If you are not a grandparent yet, you have something wonderful to look forward to. Mother Nature sure puts things in the right order. I do not mind giving up my youth (I know, it’s not like I have a choice) in return for grandkids. Ava has so much love to give and she gives it happily. Just look at these photos.

Affectionate Ava

On the left is Ava at her first birthday party giving love to a little bear she just got. She was cuddling it and saying “awe”. In the right photo: Ava on her second birthday loving on ketchup (she told aunt Leslie [Andrea’s best friend] she wants ketchup for her birthday and Leslie obliged).

Now, any child that can give such love to a bottle of ketchup is equipped with extra cuddles and love for her “Gramma”. That’s me. I got promoted from being Gamma to Gramma in the last few weeks as she learned how to pronounce “R”. I do not force cute grandma names on her. She can call me whatever she wants and when she does, my heart skips a beat no matter the name.

My heart also skips a beat (although in a different fashion) when she is about to jump from her little slide, or a couch, or anything too high and says: “go away gramma!” She is a fearless little one. She will climb and jump and when I try to hold her hand tells me: “I’ll do it”. Little Miss Independent!

She’s been walking since she was nine month old and taking swimming lessons since birth, thus no wonder she is not afraid of anything. Ava is obsessed with bounce-houses. She is oblivious of her surroundings when she’s in one. Big kids don’t scare her and she falls down with delight: “I fall down!” she’d exclaim and then ask herself with concern: “you O.K?”

swimming and bouncing is her thing

She took up after her mom and started talking early too. Conversations with her are pure bliss; you never know what she will come up with next and astonish you. My daughter is also teaching her to speak Bosnian (moja mala zjaka) and German. Since early on Ava loved being in the kitchen and helping. See photos below. She is gramma’s little sous-chef.

Gramma’s helper

She is very polite and will tell you “bless you”, “please” and “thank you”. Also “excuse me” even when she only bumps into a chair. That girl is so funny and I can’t wait to see how her personality will develop.

Oh, how much I love her it’s incomprehensible. But I won’t try to put a label on it. It is not measured in words, it is not measured in gifts, amount of money I spend on her or the number of times I visit her. That is all phony. It is measured in a special bond we have, it is measured in her big smile when she sees me and her tender, warm hugs (refer to the second photo above) it is measured in her requests to call me and see me right after she wakes up or when she says “I hold gramma”, meaning she wants to be in my arms.

She feels my love and she responds to it with even more love. That’s how it is measured and that is all that matters to me. I do not have to prove it to her (or anyone else for that matter) how big my love is with any numbers. Quality over quantity has always been my motto.

So yes, I am bragging today because I want you all to know what a gem my Ava is. And if your little one is just as special I am genuinely happy for you. I will not like you less for it (unless you’re making it a competition) and I will not be jealous. The love for Ava has filled up even the tiniest corners of my whole being and there is no room left for envy.

So here are some pictures from Ava’s first and second birthday. All decorations and food were made by me, from scratch ( a topic for another post). Hours and hours of labor because there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her. There, I’m done bragging.

P.S. As I was writing this post, Ava and Andrea came to visit. Needless to say, Ava got all my attention and this daughter of mine hacked my laptop and wrote the paragraph below. I am leaving it for all of you to see how much crazy I have to deal daily, ha!

Oh, wait, just one more thing. Have I mentioned that my daughter is the most beautiful, smartest, funniest person I know? The sun rises and sets with her. You do believe that kiddo!  I just wish I could quit my job and stay with my daughter all day every day.. and cook for her. I want to make her every meal. I did that before you moved out, remember? Ava loves my cooking so it’s a win-win. She makes me happy when skies are gray. Ava does, not you. When I’m not with her, I look at the big canvas of her face hanging above my bed (that would be scary) and just stare at it. Sometimes, I even talk to it. HA, HA, HA! When she calls me, my phone lights up with a picture of her with a halo around her head. She is just an angel. Um, no. I smile every time I see her and I think about her when I’m not with her.

Well, I don’t know what exactly happened to her. She was so smart when she was little, lol. I still love her though 🙂

But back to Ava.

Funny girl: at one she helped to open her gifts and was saying ooh and aah to each, but at two she didn’t care for them and was constantly running away.

Ava, the heart-stopper

My little Love,

May God grant you always: a sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you, laughter to cheer you, faithful friends near you and whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you. May you always walk in the sunshine, may you never want for more, may the Angels rest their wings right beside your door.

Gramma loves you more than you will ever know! ♥

I love this so much! You have EVERY reason to take a moment out to brag on little Ava once in a while because she’s amazing. That’s probably because her mama’s pretty great, and you raised her, Gramma 🙂
