There's a cardinal in the holly, looking like the King of Winter and I'm so very ready for January to end.
PHOTO FRIDAY 37 - NORTHERN CARDINAL IN WINTER
Hi friends! I know January has only just begun, but I am so ready for it to be over. How about you? Aren't months with over 28 days overrated anyways? I'll say.
After Christmas decorations have been taken down, and plows left a disgusting mess of snowbanks that are anything but snow-white, we are battling a case of the blahs. Wherever you look you see a gray, sad state of affairs. Even snow gave up on winter. There's nothing to please the eye, except our State bird, the King of Winter - Northern Cardinal.
We have a pair,
Mr. and Mrs. The King and Queen Cardinal that regularly come to our backyard for free food. Among other birds they stand out with their bright cardinal color, especially against the snow white.
A few photos from my backyard birding. Don't they look royal? What is your State bird?

We keep binoculars in the back room/sun room and living room, so that we are always ready to observe the birds. It has become quite a hobby of ours and bird-watching/birding has a calming effect. Try it, you'll find yourself wanting to keep track of how many different species you can spot. So fun!
