Back when my husband and I were dating I’d surprise him with a picnic here and there. Sometimes I’d tell him to meet me for lunch in the park or by the river. Other times I’d invite him to my house for dinner outside.

One time we even had an impromptu night-time picnic. That was adventurous!

We went meteor showers-gazing outside of the city. In the fields, we found a red truck and decided to jump in. We had a blanket and some crackers, we laid down and saw so many falling meteors. It was the best picnic ever! If you’re thinking there’s nothing adventurous about two kids climbing on a stranger’s truck in the middle of a night, think again. We were no kids, but we had kids – adult kids. Two old farts having a time of their lives, ha!

There’s just something so romantic about sitting on a blanket and sharing food packed in a picnic basket with the person you love. And ants. It ain’t no picnic without ants!

If you’re feeling adventurous for a picnic, be it at night or midday, I gathered 20 recipe ideas that are easy and perfect for two or a whole family. Enjoy!

How fun that you saw the truck and just jumped in! My guys have been hard at it working on moving our strawberry patch, so I think I am going to surprise them with an impromptu picnic in just a few minutes!

It was either that truck, the hood of my car (and a risk of a dent), or the ground which was rough and since it was dark I didn’t like the idea of something crawling over me, lol.
      Hope you enjoyed your picnic!

It’s been years since we picniced – the last time was when my SIL wanted to host a big graduation party for all the kids in our combined families. At the last minute she informed us that the do would be in a provincial park MILES from where she lived. She’s never offered to host anything since, even though it basically went well (there were concrete shelters that were blessedly cool on that sweltering day). Call me a sissy, but some of us are old & cranky enough, or pale & hormonal enough, to want a way in out of the heat when we’ve had enough of the sun trying to melt us.
I’ll definitely try some of these recipes, but they will be served on the yard, just a short walk to a decent bathroom. 😉

Haha, picnics are not for sissies that’s for sure. 😉 But even the toughest ones pick a cooler day to enjoy their food outside even if it’s in the backyard. Just a common sense, I think.
