This strawberry affogato is a grown-up version of the traditional Italian espresso and ice cream pour-over dessert.
Affogato means "drowned" and while we love our gelato drowned in hot coffee, we love this adult combination even better.
Add more sparkling wine and you have a delicious beverage. I loved the big bubbles created by the bubbly over ice cream and went a bit crazy with it, as you can see. Follow the recipe exactly and it should be perfect.
If you ask me, the strawberry affogato (or a wine and ice cream float) pairs nicely with these fillo cherry blossoms for a romantic Valentine's Day date.
I can't tell you what else I'm planning because my husband reads my posts on occasion. It'd be just my luck that he decides to read this one. So, shhh!
He proposed to me on Valentine's Day years ago so we make it extra special. I like to celebrate everything with Champagne. Ice cream is just a bonus.
Sparkling wine or champagne, one of the elegant extras in life, should be served chilled. They don't call it King of Wines and Wine of Kings for no reason. But I only drink it when I'm happy and when I'm sad. 😉
Combining the two favorite treats is brilliant. No rules and no consequences. What is your favorite combination? Please don't say root beer and ice cream float because we can't be friends then.
Two thumbs down for root beer. To me, it looks and tastes like a car mechanic's bathwater. Bubbly, on the other hand, is like tasting the stars!

Thank you, Laura! 🙂
This just looks so gosh darn pretty! It really makes me wish I wasn't allergic to wine...maybe vodka and a little bit of strawberry sparkling water?
Oh, no! I've never heard anyone being allergic to wine. That's too bad! I think your idea of vodka might work. Or strawberry flavored vodka and sparkling water would be OK too. Only one way to find out. 😉
I've had ice cream in coffee but never in wine! Such a simple and delicious idea! Thank for bringing it to FF:)
Thank you, Monika! 🙂

Thanks, Barrie! It could be enjoyed with a red wine as well. 🙂
I can never think of mixing an ice cream with an wine and you did it so nicely.

I definitely gonna try this at my home.

I'll say 😉
"I like to celebrate everything with Champagne. Ice cream is just a bonus."
"But I only drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad."
A girl after my own heart....
I won't mention how, as a kid, I remember there being a wall of A&W jugs in the basement. I mean, literally, jugs on jugs stacked against a basement wall. My mom was pregnant and craved A&W ALL the time... I don't mind a Sasbarillo on occasion.
Oh, wow! A&W - thanks but no thanks. I had to look up Sasbarillo (thanks, Google!) but found Sarsaparilla instead. Is that what you meant? If it tastes anything remotely like root beer - keep it, lol.
My Valentine would love one of these. They are so pretty too, Jas!
Thank you, Carlee! I love tasty, easy treats.
