A combination of baked fruit and nuts goes great warm or cold by itself or paired up with vanilla ice cream.

Remember last year when I bragged about being invited to a TV cooking show? It finally aired this May! If you missed seeing it, don't worry, it's recorded.
You're in luck. Why are you in luck? Well, because I'm giving you something to laugh about. I'm exposing my flaws for everybody to see.
There's no Photoshop and no dubbing - what you see is what you get - my oily skin, wild hair, and thick accent. Yes, all that's Jas. Oh, and I say yes a lot. Drinking at 9 am? Just look at my face when I take a sip of the Bosnian plum brandy, ha!
All this aside, I am happy I had this opportunity. I have something to leave my grandkids to remember me by and to know that no matter where you come from or how old you are if you have a dream, strive to achieve it.
The show Dinner and a Book hosted by lovely Gail Martin is like a book club joined with a related meal from the bookshelves to the kitchen. Each episode features a different book and a different guest.
I am so honored that Gail invited me to be her guest. We talked about a book by Aleksandar Hemon, The Book of My Lives.
Hemon is a Bosnian American fiction writer, and we are about the same age. This book is nonfiction and written as a series of personal essays.
The dishes we prepared are typical Bosnian dishes: roux soup, spinach and cheese Phyllo pie (also mentioned in the book), Sopska salad, and for dessert, baked fruit.

Jas you were amazing!!! I loved it! You were very composed as you managed to juggle a very difficult emotional topic, cooking and discussing a book. It is so nice to get to meet you on video but it would be even better in person! I am so very proud of you. Sharing everywhere! Take care, BAM
allthatsjas says
Bobbi, you called it out! You are so intuitive! The topic is still very sensitive for me, even after all these years, and I had to distract from going into details in the conversation.
I so hope that one day we will meet in person! Thanks for you thoughtful words!

OMG! I didn't know I've been rubbing shoulders with a celebrity!!! ;D You are a natural, Jas and there was nothing to laugh about even if I wanted to. Your voice did sound a tad nervous I thought only in the beginning, but you did more than OK! Bet the plum brandy calmed your nerves. 😉 I watched the entire thing and was drawn into the story. I like how she intertwined the story from Aleksandar while cooking. You had me smiling with what you said on poor man's soup and with a few croutons, it turns to something else! haahaaa
WoW! You made filo dough from scratch? I'm curious how you'd make that paper thin. That's a lot of work! Send over those home made doughs from your mom! Or I'll just pop by for a cup of coffee! 😀 xxx.
allthatsjas says
Lol, far from celebrity or should I start charging for autographs? Thanks for your honest opinion, Ann! And, yes that brandy did help, haha. How to make filo dough from scratch? You start turning it in your hands like the pizza makers do and then you drop it on the table and start stretching it carefully all around, until it's paper thin. Easy peasy 😀
I would love if you'd pop by for a cup of coffee!!! XOXO
Ann GrubbsnCritters says
That sounds like the work of a professional.Sounds easy enough - I can't even turn a plate like the pizza makers do! :p I'd be awesome to see you do that though.
Hmmm...you CAN start charging. But I'm not gonna pay!:p LOL.
Have a good day, Jas!
allthatsjas says
You are such a brat, lol, but that's what I love about you :p Next time you're in the States, stop by! My door is always open for friends (family has to schedule a visit, ha!).
Ann GrubbsnCritters says
LOL! :p Thanks for the invite! I'm glad I'm not family! hahaaa! Have a wonderful day, Jas! x.

Haha, jesi vidjela kako sam se stresla poslije rakije, kao da nisam iz Bosne. Hvala, Jasna! 😀
Jasmin says
Jasminka, you have such a lovely voice and you act so natural around the cameras, you could easily have your own cooking show!
Spinach phyllo is one of my favorite spring pies, but I never tried Bosnian baked fruit dessert - I will definitely make it when plums and figs come in season...
allthatsjas says
Thanks, sweet Jasmin! Inside, I was horrified. My voice doesn't usually have that tone, only when I'm nervous 🙂 Thanks for a lovely note!!!

THANK YOU!!!! Means the world to me, Pamela 😀 If I ever get a second chance, I'd change a few things. Maybe 9 am drink(s) wouldn't be such a bad idea, lol. Have a glorious week!
