Creamy, healthy, and delicious, this chocolate oatmeal porridge is both a breakfast and a dessert.
We love all Flahavan's naturally creamy oatmeal and this post specifically is a tribute to their steel cut oats and their St. Patrick's Day Sweepstakes Campaign with Slow Food USA.
Start your day off right with this creamy, healthy, and delicious oatmeal bowl. It is both a breakfast and a dessert. Who can argue with that?
When it comes to eating healthily, Flahavan's advice is to start small. Take the time to eat a healthier breakfast.
Chocolate oatmeal porridge is my number one choice every morning. It is very satisfying, and best of all it tastes great hot or cold. So I usually cook enough oatmeal to last me a few days.
I don't always put Irish Cream in it. Although the amount is hardly noticeable, please replace it with milk if you're serving this recipe to your kids.
But do add it to your batch, because what better way to celebrate an Irish saint than with Irish Cream and Irish oatmeal, amirite?
Here comes the best part:
In addition to health benefits, you could win a trip for two to the Slow Food Nations Festival in Denver, CO this July. You can find more details on their blog post.
Make sure to share your breakfast photo and hashtag with #OatGoals #FlahavansUSA. To enter the sweepstakes go here. The winners will be announced on St. Patrick's Day, so make sure to follow and check their sites on March 17!
Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization that works to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions.
Their goal is to counteract the rise of the "fast life" mentality and combat people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, and how our food choices affect the world around us.
I'm all about easy ways to get healthy and this Irish Cream chocolate oatmeal porridge with naturally creamy Flahavan's oats is one of the yummiest ways to get on track.

Your photos are beautiful and colorful just like this breakfast. I can't eat that much chocolate (it's sad) but the rest of it sounds delicious anyway.

Not even cocoa? You could use less just for the taste. Have you tried to substitute chocolate or cocoa with carob powder? In my homeland, we use ground carob in baking pretty often. ๐

Does the alcohol cook off - I understand that it does so when you flambe, but does it always cook out over heat?
Jas says
A small percentage of alcohol is always present even when cooked over heat. Not enough to influence anyone, but with kids, it's better safe than sorry. I would never suggest that is OK to serve alcohol to kids in any shape or form. In this recipe, it's not even cooked -just added at the end, so...much better for the adults, lol. But it is totally optional! ๐
