This jellyfish shot looks like, well - a jellyfish and is quick and fun to make and fun to drink. Learn how to make it with only four ingredients and be the star at your next cocktail party!
Perhaps the sound of a Jellyfish Shot is not exactly appetizing, and the images in my mind, before I actually knew what it was, were even less attractive!
I know, I live under a rock and need to get out more often. But I gotta give it to the Tipsy Bartender – not only does it look cool, but it also tastes amazing too!
You don’t need to measure the ingredients for the jellyfish (Medusa) shot (or does it classify as a shooter? Heck, if I know). A splash of this and a drop of that is all you’ll need.
One word of advice: don’t let the creaminess and yumminess of this shot fool you. It quickly goes to your head, or maybe I’m a lightweight!

๐ Why it Works
- Quick and easy: It takes minutes to make one of these cocktails like a pro, with just 4 ingredients. No mixology class necessary!
- Perfect for a party: If you want to impress your guests with your bar skills, this shot is a show stopper! Because they are so quick to make, you can easily make a few at the same time.
- Easy to drink: If you are not a fan of shots generally, you'll be pleasantly surprised by these! Easy to drink, but take it slow!
๐ Ingredients and Notes
You'll need equal parts of:
- Crème de Cacao: Chocolate liqueur. I used the light rather than the dark variety.
- Amaretto Disaronno: An almond flavored liqueur.
- Bailey’s Irish Cream: I always have some Baileys in my fridge! It's wonderfully creamy and works great with the other flavors.
- Grenadine: A non-alcoholic syrup that adds the red tentacles to this jellyfish shot!
๐ช Instructions
- Fill half of a shot glass with Crème de Cacao. Top with a layer of amaretto.
- Slowly add Bailey’s Irish Cream, best pouring slowly over a teaspoon.
- To finish, add drops of grenadine and watch tentacles form underneath the amaretto layer. Way too cool!
- Keep the ingredients refrigerated before mixing.
- You really shouldn’t use ice, or you won’t get the jellyfish effect.
- Use the back of a spoon to gently pour the amaretto and Baileys over the creme de cacao to create layers. If you pour it straight in, it won't sit on top, and you won't get that jellyfish effect.
โ Frequently Asked Questions
These shots are best made as soon as they are served, so your guests get the full jellyfish effect! The tentacles will disappear after about 3 or 4 minutes.
It's best to use tall, wide glasses to get the best Jellyfish effect.
We use 3 ounces of alcohol in each jellyfish shot, so do take it easy! A double shot is 2 ounces, so this one does pack a punch! It's a great way to get a party started, but I wouldn't plan an evening just serving these!
